Today, as global healthcare costs steadily rise, consumers are increasingly aware of the impact on health as a result of their food choices and are rapidly moving towards healthier choices in food shopping.

Bacon of the Sea is an all-natural, cold smoked fish product that is the first in a series of pork and beef substitutes to be introduced to the wholesale and consumer markets by the Grenada Southern Fishermen's Association. Bacon of the Sea tastes like and is prepared the same way as pork based bacon, without the undesirable health and environmental impacts.

Processed in a quality assured environment using naturally grown, local ingredients and spices, Bacon of the Sea is a healthy substitute in reducing the intake of pork and beef and replacing harmful fats with healthful fats.

In recent years, studies have shown that a diet rich in fish products leads to better overall health. Fish products contain significant amounts of Omega-3 fatty acids, considered an essential fat necessary for human health. As the human body cannot produce Omega-3 fatty acids, therefore, it is necessary to get them through food. Omega-3 fatty acids can be found in fish, such as sailfish, tuna, and other seafood including algae and krill, some plants, and nut oils. Also known as polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), omega-3 fatty acids, among other things, play a crucial role in brain function and normal growth and development. Studies show that Omega-3 fatty acids, contribute to better health, specifically in decreasing the risk of cardiovascular disease. Omega-3 fatty acids are also known to decrease triglyceride levels, slow growth rate of atherosclerotic plaque, and the slight lowering of blood pressure. The American Heart Association recognizes the healthful benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids and recommends eating fish (particularly fatty fish) at least two times (two servings) a week.
